Louis Turpin, Portraits
My first portrait commission was a painting of two boys, at home in their front room. At the time, most of my paintings were of people, mainly my wife and friends, but were not specifically portraits. I apply this approach to portraits even today. Through the Seventies and early Eighties portraiture became a main strand of my work, leading to my being exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery in 1986. As a direct consequence of this, I was commissioned to paint Miss Pears, which was unveiled on Children's Television (the Wide Awake Club) in 1987.
I first exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 1994, and have shown with them regularly ever since. Portraiture continues to be an important part of my work, and currently I produce between 3 and 5 commissioned portraits each year. Click on one of the portraits below to view a larger picture.
